Spotted on Beacon Street: Navy blazers and (pink) chinos - the uniform for Boston men.
Two fellas with great style spotted in Monument Square. I really love when men opt for layers for warmth rather than bulky coats. Here, a nice oxford shirt, red cardigan and a wool blazer (pocket square and all) is all that was needed on a Sunday afternoon. And of course Jacket, a Jack Russell/Whippet mix, looked equally handsome.
Here are Sarah and Heidi’s final transformation. Our stylist Anna (the leggy redhead pictured above) sat down with our gals a couple of weeks ago to go through their wardrobes and talk about their personal style. We were knee deep in blazers while Anna showed them how to use existing items from their closets in new ways.
Anna spotted Sarah’s gray knit mini-dress and vamped it up with a gold belt and a fitted black blazer. Her necklace (My Little Anchor, Bliss) was just enough of an accessory. Anna suggests keeping the jewelry simple when you’re working with a bold print.
Heidi wore a swingy, Parisian inspired dress (Better by Nadia Brigitte Stripe Dress, Bliss) and a colored skinny belt for a pop of color. Her elephant necklace ($60, Helene M) added another colorful dose and playfulness to the outfit.
I think our work is done here. We hope Heidi and Sarah will be able to smoothly maneuver through their wardrobes every morning. Perhaps they’ll even think of us every time they dress. One can only hope.
A huge, enormous thank you to Anna for all her hard work, to Heidi and Sarah for being such sports. And many thanks to Helene M and Bliss for letting our ladies play dress up and to Irina, our insanely amazing makeup artist from the Regency Spa. (Book her ladies-she’s so good.)

MAKEOVER TIME! We at Fore Front Fashion, along with the gorgeous Anna from The Sequined Blazer, paired up to give these corporate cutie’s a well-deserved makeover. Imagine the fashion suffocation one must impart when working in the corporate world. The horror!
Sarah, the spa director at the Regency, must wear a blazer to work every day. Jeans are a major no-no and she doesn’t want to “slip into hippi wear” when she needs to look professional.
Heidi, a consultant at CCG, is tired of “dressing like Hilary Clinton” with her plethora of pin-striped pantsuits. “I love to look bougie,” she says, “but I end up just buying Tahari suits.”
Lucky for them, we enlisted Anna, and some amazing scores at Helene M and Bliss, to give these gals a head to toe makeover. Check back on Tuesday to see these gals go from “corporate icks” to “sexy chicks.”
You never know where we’ll find fashion. We spotted Traci in the parking lot of Local 188. A ruffled blouse, cotton cardigan and puff sleeve leather blazer (I dig) created a very Charlie’s Angels vibe. I want to say her look was “groovy” but I’ll refrain and say “perfectly put together.” Her suede kitten heels were - score! - a Goodwill find.
A few weeks ago we got a reader email from Heidi (suit at left) and Sarah (suit at right) with a small plea. Could we, the Maine fashion folk, help with their style? Tired of bleak blazers and pin-striped petulance at work, they were in search of some inspiration, guidance and maybe even some color. Though Nate and I scour the streets for style, we aren’t exactly self-professed stylists. (Well, at least Nate isn’t.)
Luckily, the style stars aligned. Soon after hearing from Heidi I found out about The Sequined Blazer - a Portland based blog devoted to helping out with work week style conundrums.
I quickly enlisted the help of Anna and Liz and away we went. We’re bringing you a sneak peek of our makeover next week - and will unveil the final result soon after. Anyone else need some fashion help?
We spotted this dapper gentleman in “his favorite spot” in Portland, on the bench outside his apartment in Monument Square. There is something special - and dare we say rare - about someone dressed up to people watch.
We appreciated this polished ensemble - a linen shirt, chinos and leather shoes. By pairing it with a suede blazer, his summery threads transition into the cool days ahead. But his best accessory? An awesome moustache.
Fare thee well linens and warm evenings. Fall’s officially here.
We ran into Laura, the marketing manager for the Chamber of Commerce, in Monument Square. We introduced her Franklin to Nate’s Franklin. Neither of them were totally intrigued with each other, but we were charmed by Laura’s style. Originally from Concord, NH, she’s no stranger to preparing for the elements and was appropriately dressed in a military style blazer and rolled skinny jeans on this particularly chilly night. In lieu of an actual shirt, this brazen lady was wearing a scarf! We also took note of her awesome baubles (the bigger, the better!) and slingback oxfords. A fellow Portland blogger, her site Sweeter Salt is chock full of outfit ideas and steal-worthy recipes. Hopefully we’ll see her again soon for a doggie playdate. Or a shopping trip.
Spotted in front of Arabica Coffee House (2 Free Street) - this guy immediately caught our eye with his dangling cigarette and cappuccino. He had a great New England-meets-Paris look with a striped shirt under a fitted blazer and hunter green leather Topsiders. (Note: Nate is kicking himself for not asking him where he can buy such a pair.)
Are you from Maine?
No, but my family lives here and I visit often. I live in Portsmouth, New Hampshire with my wife. It’s a great place to live.
You have a great accent. Where are you from originally?
Russia! And thank you.
