A true patriot spotted on Park Street, Boston
Hello boys! I chased down these well-dressed gents as they exited Starbucks to snap a group photo. I love the variety of styles here, from a trapper hat to a toggle cardi to chic sneaks, there was a lot of good going on. Unfortunately, these fellas were visiting from Boston. But don’t worry, I informed them that their city is not known for their style, though they might be the exception.
Last week I headed up the hill to meet new Portland transplant Kate (along with her husband George and two cats) to learn more about the Saco born designer behind Filia. Though Kate has no formal design or sewing background, you’d never know it. Her story is like many other dressmakers and seamstresses in Portland - her Mom taught her at a young age and from there she taught herself. Her dresses are the perfect mix of figure flattering and colorful. All of her designs are created using crisp cotton poplin, lightweight linens or a mix of both. Come spring, I’ll be picking up a plethora to add to my wardrobe. In the meantime, I’ll just wear them with tights.

I have a thing for preppy shirts and colored chinos. Maybe it’s the 80’s heartthrobs thing I’ve yet to shake. Though I’ve never truly embraced the “prep” look, if a man can pull off yellow pants, I applaud him.
This former Bostonian (no “worst dressed city” jokes please) looks tailored in a button-down RL, braided belt and chinos. I loved his sunglasses. Turns out they’re Prada. Apparently I have very expensive taste.
We like to keep on the pulse of fashion trends throughout New England. Though Portland fashion is our one true love, sometimes it’s good to see what our neighbors are up to. Enter Boston Magazine’s big spring fashion piece. Color blocking, neon hues, menswear-inspired pieces and tunics galore will apparently be big on the streets in Beantown.
