Here’s how to create your own Bean Boot planter.

1/ Assemble a worn pair of Bean Boots, potting soil, a shovel, flowers or herbs of your choice and a drill. 

2/ Drill 6-8 scattered drainage holes throughout the sole.

3/ Fill bottom with soil, add plant and cover with more soil.

4/ Display on your front porch. Be the envy of the neighborhood.

Hey Fore Fronters! I’m Laura from Sweeter Salt, a blog where I post my ramblings about approachable fashion and healthy and easy food. When I thought of holiday outfits, my mind immediately went to Christmas Day. In my family we have a reasonably casual affair, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like to add a little sparkle. My love of glitter didn’t just materialize out of nowhere, the ladies in my family know how to dress! So, I combined rugged and casual elements with a little silver lame - oh yes I did. Here I am, oh so naturally placing an ornament on my tree. What? Not believable? Now, truth be told, I will probably not being red lipstick on the big day. I’ll be far too busy sipping champagne and snacking on delicious food with my lovely family to bother with such things. I hope you enjoy the same - happy holidays!

For me, these guys really live up the stereotype of the Maine man. Exhibit a: Buffalo plaid, whether it’s on a Maine Guide Shirt or used as a jacket lining. Exhibit b: Roughed up looking boots including the perennial Maine Hunting Shoe. Exhibit c: Interesting facial hair. I’m a fan of the ‘stache. Well done boys! Just look at the woman in the background - clutching her chest to be in the presence of such manly men!

I woke up to 6-8 inches of snow in SLC today. How did I react? As any good Maine boy would - threw my buffalo plaid on over my  Carhartt union suit, found my Woolrich slippers, and trudged out into the snow with a good read (L.L. Bean: The Making of an American Icon).

I spent most of Monday wandering around our beloved city and ran into Alex and Ashley. You first met Alex when we snooped through his closet. They were on a walk, trying to avoid some sheet rocking in their apartment and apologized for being spotted not looking “too dressed up.” I thought they looked great, as usual, in casual and comfortable Monday afternoon attire.

Not that I’m trying to rush summer’s end, but fall is looking more appealing thanks to L.L.Bean Signature’s new arrivals. 

Lucky for me, Portland has no shortage of talented photogs willing to spare an hour of their day in the quest for style spotting. I met up with Bryan Bruchman, the guy behind HillyTown. You probably know him, since most people we photographed did. Apparently, he’s pretty popular in these parts.

We found Timmy, who works at Rogues Gallery, in front of Longfellow Books. I loved his Buddy Holly-esque specs - very retro, very geek chic. Sporting a pair of new leather Signature boots and an L.L.Bean hunting jacket, the canteen around his neck was decidedly not new. He bragged that he’s had it for over seven years and later that day, oh the irony, he lost it. But not to worry, sources tell us his beloved canteen was found again. We’ll dedicate this post in memoriam…just in case.
