This Mainer recently left Manhattan to move back to his native land. He was dressed in a plethora of pastels, though when I asked him if this attire was in honor of the Cinco celebrations, he admitted he always dresses this colorfully. A man in mint-colored jeans? Amen to that!

When I first spotted this lady snapping photos downtown, I thought I may have come across another street spotter. Afterall, she was wearing the quintessential blogger uniform: striped shirt, men’s watch, oversized scarf, skinny denim, hipster glasses. And then it hit me: a waaaay cooler looking version of me? Fear quickly crept in as I inquired about her camera’s intentions. Turns out she was just hanging onto it for her friend’s photo class. I’m in the clear.
It’s hard to look chic on a rainy day, but this New Yorker pulled it off, putting us Mainers to shame. Though I’ve been resistant towards liking the Missoni for Target collection, I loved her maxi dress - especially under a cute bomber. A perfectly draped floral scarf and - gasp! - a vintage gucci saddlebag (it was real - I asked) gave me a case of closet envies. I also loved her manicure - four blue nails, one gray, the perfect palette for a rainy week.
I spotted this MECA student with Ashley a couple weeks ago, who graciously stopped for a photo while schlepping a box back into school. Not only did I love his style (hello pattern mixing and peach cords!) but he told us that he was a jewelry designer. So look out for him on First Friday where he’ll most likely be selling his goods.
And I’ll see you on the streets tonight…!
Take a dressing cue from this waitress at Andy’s: if you must wear all black to work, nothing adds a bit of panache better than a vintage Hermes scarf.
If there’s one thing that always gets my attention on the streets, it’s a strong brow. (Thanks Brooke Shields). Bryan and I spotted this Siempre Mas shopkeeper hanging bags in front of the store. This former model was sporting three essential wardrobe pieces: black jeans, a plain white tee and a leather jacket. The pop of color around her neck (from Siempre Mas of course) was the plaid icing on the cake. Plus, she was my first flip-flop spotting of the season. Maybe Spring isn’t so far away after all.

This dapper gentleman exemplifies a style that Nate likes to call “newsies chic.” If you aren’t familiar with this cult classic, you might not get the joke. We stopped this Mainer while he was en route to Salvation Army (probably to pick up some more vintage goods). He told us he always rolls his pants up, in this case revealing two almost matching socks, with a nicely worn pair of loafers. The plaid shirt, wool scarf and conductor cap are a modern homage to “the union.” Alright, enough Newsies jokes. Just watch this video and thank us later.
We ran into Laura, the marketing manager for the Chamber of Commerce, in Monument Square. We introduced her Franklin to Nate’s Franklin. Neither of them were totally intrigued with each other, but we were charmed by Laura’s style. Originally from Concord, NH, she’s no stranger to preparing for the elements and was appropriately dressed in a military style blazer and rolled skinny jeans on this particularly chilly night. In lieu of an actual shirt, this brazen lady was wearing a scarf! We also took note of her awesome baubles (the bigger, the better!) and slingback oxfords. A fellow Portland blogger, her site Sweeter Salt is chock full of outfit ideas and steal-worthy recipes. Hopefully we’ll see her again soon for a doggie playdate. Or a shopping trip.
