I met up with my pal Kyle, cofounder of Elykssor Clothing, to catch up since we last talked. A lot has changed since we first met back in May. They’ve since launched two new websites (a new site and shop), they’ve started their own web series (hopefully they cover my biopic) and they’ve started doing limited release runs of hoodies, thermals and knit hats, most of which sell out within the first two weeks. In essence, they’ve become a big deal. Their next limited run will be a Portland music hoodie, which will have the signatures of local musicians, that will be on sale in February. Kyle’s a good ‘ole Maine boy and credits all their success to the people in Maine that have supported the brand since it launched. What’s up next? Their first spring collection. And perhaps a web series starring me…(wink, wink, nudge).

I’ve always wanted a 3/4 length winter coat but have always considered them impractical for Maine winters. But since it’s been practically balmy this year, I was very envious of this camel coat. A sweater and wrist warmers are a smart addition, just in case it ever does cool down. Her perfectly worn Bean Boots were a hand-me-down from Mom.
In honor of the snow, the 100th anniversary Bean Boot.
(cue the ahhhhhs)
Meet Michelle, my (Maine) belle! Michelle is the communications manager for Goodwill New England and the primary reason why we bloggers were able to pull off such successful swaps this past year. She also runs a cool blog and sells vintage clothes. Fully aware of her amazing sense of style, I asked her to put together an outfit for Holiday Cocktails. Here’s what she’s wearing:
I’m wearing a vintage lace dress my sister gave me years ago. I paired it with a brown leather belt and boots. I’m also wearing a vintage coat (found at a Dover, New Hampshire Goodwill) that I recently picked up to complete the ensemble. It’s a Findlay Fashion (Original by “Greg”) and it’s from 1963.
Thanks Michelle. Now pass me a Tom Collins.
Stand firm ye boys of Maine. If you’ve heard that quote before you’re either a) a Joshua Chamberlain fanatic or b) a Loyal Citizen Tees devotee. I am of the latter. We met Loyal Citizen creators Jeff Lauzier and Julian Redman at their HQ - Joseph’s on Free Street. They work in the store and peddle their amazing line there too.
Jeff is the “business brain” behind the brand while Julian finds concepts for the shirts. His inspiration comes from everywhere. The covers of old books, an image off an old pennant, a historical quote. Even the name from their line, “Loyal Citizen” was written on an old gravestone. Loyal Citizen shirts “exemplify New England pride.” After all, only Mainers are willing to wear their state tree on their chest.
Screen printed and made entirely in Maine - we can’t think of a better gift for Father’s Day. Stop into Joseph’s or Lalo Boutique where you can pick out your favorite - or order from their website here. And don’t worry ladies, they come in sizes for you too.
